
J. Donald Easton, M.D., Chairman of the Department of Clinical Neurosciences
Research Interests
Dr. J. Donald Easton, professor of Clinical Neurosciences (Neurology)
and chairman of Brown’s Department of Clinical Neurosciences, is
neurologist-in-chief at Rhode Island Hospital as well as Women and Infants
Hospital. Students and residents have repeatedly designated him an outstanding
teacher.
Dr. Easton has presided as director of the American Board of Psychiatry
and Neurology, chairman of the Residency Review Committee for Neurology,
chairman of the American Heart Association Stroke Council, and a councilor
of the American Neurological Association. His many distinctions include
being named an honorary member of the Stroke Society of Australasia,
the Austrian Society for Stroke Research, and the Belgian Stroke Society.
The author of more than 200 journal articles, books, chapters, and
other works, Professor Easton has served on the editorial boards of
various journals. He has contributed to numerous clinical stroke trials
and congresses as a member of their steering, advisory, organizing,
or monitoring committees. He is presently participating in the Antithrombotic
Trialists’ Collaboration.
Recently, the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services appointed
Dr. Easton to the National Advisory Neurological Disorders and Stroke
Council. The council comprises part of the National Institute of Neurological
Disorders and Stroke, where Dr. Easton headed an initial review group.
