Paul N. McMillan, Ph.D. Research Interests
Paul McMillan, Ph.D., is director of the Core Research Laboratories at
Rhode Island Hospital as well as an associate professor of pathology and
laboratory medicine at Brown. He earned his doctorate in microbiology
and immunology. His extensive publication record spans the fields of cell
biology, ultrastructural analysis, immunology, and cytochemistry. Dr.
McMillan has substantial experience with transmission and scanning electron
microscopy, multi-parameter flow cytometric analysis, and image analysis,
including stereo morphometry.
Dr. McMillan’s research examines the biosynthetic pathways of
cell surface and cytoplasmic glycoconjugates. Recently, he has been
correlating changes in glycoconjugate expression with developmental
stages in the choroid plexus of normal versus hydrocephalic rats. In
addition, he has been characterizing the morphology and biochemistry
of choroid plexus “dark cells.”
